Table of Asteroids Next Closest Approaches to the Earth

This table reports (sorted by date) asteroids with nominal Earth-miss distance within 3 Lunar Distances for the coming years.

All data have been extrapolated from our MBPL (Minor Body Priority List) and SAEL (Small Asteroids Encounters List).

Nominal miss distances in km are computed covering a timespan up to 200 years (as a function of the orbit uncertainty), using a software developed at Sormano.

Minimum and maximum values based on a 3-sigma uncertainty confidence level are computed using OrbFit Software Package by F. Manca (N/D = Not Defined usually owing to a very high orbit uncertainty)

Torino and Palermo Impact Hazard Scale are also reported.
Objects listed in the risk page at JPL (NASA) and NeoDys (Univ. Of Pisa, Italy) about possible impacts are signaled in column "Risk Page": NeoDys and Sentry.

Radar observations has been included in the orbital solution when available.

All the distances are computed between the centers of mass (Earth and asteroid) therefore Earth Radius should have been considered in order to refer distances to our planet surface.

Asteroids with interesting future close encounters with the Earth
2013 GM3

This small asteroid of about 25 m in diameter, discovered on April 03, 2013 at G96 Mt. Lemmon Survey
by J. A. Johnson, will be closest to the Earth in 2026. Our computations reveal a still quite large uncertainty so
that more observations are desirable to improve the orbital elements.
Currently we estimate an Earth close approach on April 14, 2026 at a nominal distance of 68420 km and possible
minimum transit at about 8600 km above Earth's surface.

Discovered on November 20, 2001 at LONEOS (Lowell Observatory - Flagstaff Az)
(see our internal gallery web page ), it will pass between 238962 and 247938 km from the Earth's surface on
June 26, 2028 .
(99942) Apophis
This large asteroid of about 325 m in diameter, discovered on June 19, 2004 from Kitt Peak Observatory,
will pass on April 13, 2029 at a nominal distance of 31936 Km from the Earth's surface.
