Sormano Astronomical Observatory: CCEL
Cometary Close Encounters List

Last update: November 18, 2023

Computations: Francesco Manca , Piero Sicoli , Augusto Testa (obs.sormano@alice.it).

This table includes Comets with MOID (Minimum Orbital Intersection Distance) lower than 0.0350 AU with respect to planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

Using a software developed at Sormano Observatory by A. Testa, their motions have been integrated for one hundred years to point out approaches within 0.0750 A.U. from each planet. Encounters for Disappeared or Lost Comets (DL) , and Sungrazing (SG) comets have not been taking into account.

MOID and possible approaches to planets for Long Period comets or in Parabolic and Hyperbolic orbits are also considered at the time of their apparition.

The list is a complement of our PCEL page that includes close approaches of asteroids to planets Mercury, Venus and Mars for the next two hundred years.

All the distances are computed between the centers of mass of the bodies (Comets and Planets).

This section, in addition to the form at the end of this page, links directly to the Minor Planet Center's Ephemeris Service to provide up to date positions of all the objects listed below. Astrometric observations of any of the following objects should be sent directly to obs@cfa.harvard.edu

By default, ephemerides are for 10 hours at 1 hour intervals and suppress outputs if the object is below local horizon. This service utilises the Minor Planet Ephemeris Service, courtesy of Minor Planet Center.
