Un anno fa avevo previsto che, all'arrivo dell'estate, le Ferrovie Nord
avrebbero
tolto dalla composizione dei treni maggiormente frequentati le vetture
munite di aria condizionata per
rimetterle con l'arrivo del fresco. Entrambi gli avvenimenti si sono
verificati, secondo previsione. Fortuna che quest'anno l'estate e' stata
meno calda dell'anno scorso ...
2004 May 28: Number of hits
to my web pages
The plot shows the number of hits to my web pages, since the beginning
(January 2003), excluding those coming from my own computer. Let me remind
that the plot shows, as often is the case, the number of served documents
(files), and not the number of peoples accessing my web pages: one people
may access (and usually accesses) more than one document. Furthermore, it
is hard to say if behind the page request there is a programs (like a robot),
or a human.
2004 Feb 11: a true
color image of XLSSC 005 at z=1
The image is a composite of R (blue channel), z' (green channel) and
K (red channel) images of a cluster at z=1.0 discovered by the XMM-LSS consortium.
Contours mark X-ray isophotes (wavelet filtered). The yellow square
marks the optical (color) detection of the cluster using Rz' CTIO images.
Note the overdensity of objects in the box and their similar reddish color.

The image has been generated from B, V, R images taken with the CFH12K
camera at CFHT by J.C. Cuillandre. Note the presence of a likely background
cluster at the bottom right.
2003 Dec 18: End of the
story: how many low surface brightness galaxies there are in the universe?
We have commented about this subject in a previous news. In a recent paper, Cross et al (2003, astro-ph/0312317) (i.e. the authors claiming a resurretion of the Freeman law) find a problem in their data that "compromised" their results and, therefore, they no longer claim that only few low surface brightness galaxies exist, in agreement with our (O'Neil, Andreon & Cuillandre 2003A&A...399L..35O) criticism to their paper.
